RDBMS

AxleBase is a true relational database managment system.

SQL

AxleBase accepts standard ANSI-92 SQL statements.

Embeddable

If you know how to compile a dll into your app, then you can embed AxleBase in it.

Not a database server pretending to be embeddable. It was created for that purpose.

Programming Interface

The AxleBase interface is documented on this web site.

The AxleBase API is designed for power and flexibility. It is designed for control by any language.

Configurability

AxleBase may be run as-is out-of-the-box. He is one of the simplest database managers when used that way.

But he allows extensive configuration for the advanced developer.

Server

Database servers are not embeddable. They are stand-alone software systems. AxleBase is an embeddable object.

AxleBase is an ideal database manager for a database server if you want to build one.

Advanced Architecture

The entire installation may be a single simple database.

But the configuration allows creating an installation of numerous domains of databases with multiple segmented control and access levels. Operational, physical, and control segmentation may be in various vertical and horizontal planes with or without clustering.

AxleBase allows simultaneous multiple instantiations. Each instance can create multiple DatabaseManager objects. Each DatabaseManager object can create multiple Dataset objects. Each installation can serve multiple databases.

He is tiny, but he has muscles.

Speed

Test reports are in the test section of the documentation.

Objectives

To handle the smallest and the biggest. He was designed to handle small embedded databases and to handle Man's largest databases

(Yes, that does seems contradictory. But the internal design and coding requirements are complimentary.)

AxleBase is designed for very large databases with tables up to twenty exabytes.

Not Objectives

If you need high speed under heavy concurrent access, consider one of the big name brands such as Microsoft, MySql, Oracle, etc. for the job.

If you have a run-of-the-mill database size, again, consider one of the big name brands.

If you do not need an embeddable system, consider Access, MsSql, MySql, etc. for a stand-alone system.

Additional Information

See the documentation page for details.

* *       Test Drive       * *

There is a demonstration application on the free download page and it is covered in the documentation.

AxleBase is embedded in the demo app, as you would embed it in your app.

It demonstrates AxleBase in operation and gives you a graphical user interface to try out the AxleBase features.

For a production installation, see the query tool page on this site. AxleBase is the CoreReader query tool's database manager. You can download CoreReader to see an older AxleBase in production.
